Zeitgenössische Tanzmusik für Leute die Clubs hassen, für Menschen die aufgegeben haben, für Kinder die in Brunnen gefallen sind, für Leute die sich zum Trost über das Scheitern an ihrer mangelnden Zuversicht hochziehen. Aber, wer sich ekelt, lebt wenigstens noch.

107 D.B.R. - Unbreakable LP

In the Year of the Firehorse, DBR finally released their first record — so it can be slipped more easily into a saddlebag, though conveniently only on cassette. But NOW, the saddlebag doesn't fit any more, because it grew and it's now an enormous LP. As on the previous records, DBR once again sound completely different. With real drums, real guitars, and a real bass, you can now almost call it a band. The songs were recorded and mixed by T-Rex in Kaulsdorf, Lichtenberg, and Marzahn, and you couldn’t really describe the sound any better than that. Anyone who owns a record player shouldn’t miss out on this piece of Berlin rock history.

110 Highway Patrol - So Dry 12"

GHOST DRIVER ON THE ONE-WAY-ROAD TO FUTURE

Through a happy coincidence HIGHWAY PATROL had the chance to travel back in time. Wow! Following the invitation of recording and mixing engineer Eduard-Alexandru Popovici, the idea was to produce four songs in the spirit of the late 1960s and early 1970s. They were recorded and mixed on a vintage analogue console, saved and adjusted digitally and transferred onto real tape to introduce natural tape saturation. The final mastering was again done digitally.

As nowadays it seems quite easy to emulate the sound of the past via a few digital plug-ins, this process meant quite a detour for the band – or was it? Because the tracks were recorded analoguely, a lot of decisions about sound had to be made very early on, narrowing down the infinite ocean of possibilities in digital production and therefore cutting right to the heart of the matter of: how do we want to sound?! And how thrilling a surprise to find out that the transfer to real tape added astonishing depth and character, most notably to the voices!

Their record "So Dry" once again sounds like going on a journey - which appears to have become the „signature feel“ of HIGHWAY PATROL. While "Trapped In The City" speaks of emotions heating up and melting away in the confines of the city, "So Dry" takes you out of town, breaking free from the strangely parching thirst for infinite enjoyment. "Wild Man" begs and screams for the attention of our lovers warped in their ambitions and eventually "Train" takes you on a rumbling and shoo-shooing journey to the heart of the sea.

ÖPNV have regressed. But not in the sense of the comic character who gets hit on the head with a hammer and then shits his pants; rather in the sense of a Berlin post-punk band that, with one eye, helplessly observes the band’s internal fluctuation while, with the other eye, processes the big-city hustle of Berlin and transforms what is seen and experienced—using hands and words—into avant-garde art set to self-installed drum-computer beats. I called +4917635713990 to bring the good news that ÖPNV have released a new album, but on the other end of the line I was told to go lick ÖPNV’s ass. They were one step ahead of me.

ÖPNV make rudimentary post-punk in the broadest sense, with dangerous bass lines and drum machines. On top of that come two tons of over-spilled synthesizers and subway-driver-esque announcements disguised as vocals. The whole thing is decorated with seemingly stolen children’s instruments and samples from the depths of the heart of Berlin’s underground: the subway, answering machines, and nightlife. My tip for visitors to our beloved capital: don’t make friends there—stay home instead and listen to ÖPNV’s new record!

Zum Jahr des Feuerpferdes veröffentlicht DBR endlich die erste Platte - damit man sie besser in die Reittasche stecken kann, aber praktischerweise nur auf Kassette. Wie auf den Tapes zuvor klingt DBR auch diesmal komplett anders. Mit echten Drums und echten Gitarren und echtem Bass kann man inzwischen schon fast von einer Band sprechen. Aufgenommen und gemixt wurden die Songs von T-Rex in Kaulsdorf, Lichtenberg und Marzahn und viel besser kann man den Sound auch nicht mehr beschreiben. Wer einen Kassettenspieler besitzt, sollte sich dieses Stück Berliner Rockgeschichte nicht entgehen lassen.
