Highway Patrol legen nach nur anderthalb Jahren nach. Roughe, live aufgenommene und durchgehend hypnotische 12 Songs einfach auf Tape rausballern? Klar, why not?! Um vielleicht die Wartezeit auf ein weiteres Album zu verkürzen? Um zu zeigen wie viele Songs sie noch im Patronengürtel haben oder um die ganze spielfreudige Tension in die Welt zu lassen? Who knows! Hat sicher noch ganz andere Gründe, aber ich fühle Highway Patrol.

Erste Assoziation beim Hören der Aufnahmen: "80er Punkband im DDR-Knast spielen auf selbstgeschnitzten Instrumenten den Soundtrack zu 'nem Cyberpunk-Anime". Das das Ganze im Hühnerstall zwischen Dosenbier, Acrylbongs und der bevorstehenden Hippieinvasion aus dem Outer Rim aufgenommen wurde, hab ich erst danach erfahren.

99 Splizz - s/t 12"

Splizz aus Berlin mit vier neuen Songs, die in jeglicher Hinsicht nochmal ne Schippe drauflegen. Sobald die Nadel in die Rille taucht, kühlt sich die Raumtemperatur merklich ab und die ersten Töne helfen Dir wie in diesen wohligen und dunklen Mantel, den schon das selbstbetitelte Tape umgab. Die klare, kalte "stripped to the bone" und ballastarme Soundästhetik steht durchweg sehr persönlichen Lyrics gegenüber und zeigt eine Band, die scheinbar locker zwischen allen Stühlen sitzt, meisterlich zitiert und dabei unwirklich eigen bleibt.

102 Z.O.L. - Zwei Oktaven langsamer CS

Sehr geschickt das Demo erhalten, lange rumgebummelt und in der Küche hat's gezündet. Obwohl sich das Trio sicher in der falschen Gegend gefunden hat, riecht alles aber wirklich alles in der Nummer nach Mansfelder Land, Gotha oder Knobelsdorf. Wenn es nach mir ginge, hätten die in Städten über 3.000 Einwohner Auftrittsverbot und ne glorreiche Karriere in den Dorfscheunen dieser Welt vor sich. Aber nach mir geht's hier nicht. Egal. Unkompliziert, aus der Hüfte, hier und da Gerumpel. Zeitreise im positiven Sinn.

Maybe 7" records were made for single songs plus b-side or they were made to unleash monstrous 4-track ragers to blast you and your hifi directly to the graveyard of all heroes and heroines of Rock to have an infinite orgy with them. Guess this is an example of the last. If this record would have been released in the 80ies, then Eddie Munson would have played 'Dämonenfeuer' instead of this other song to decoy demonbats. Nuff said?

96 Meat Shirt - Acid Dove LP

In just over a year, MEAT SHIRT has found its way into the most demanding ears, and not only within the punk scene. The french far west (aka Brittany) saw the birth of a trio which does not forbid itself in any way, not unlike the pioneers of US hardcore that MEAT SHIRT readily cites as references : Zero Boys, Dicks, Minor Threat or Bad Brains. The band also knows how to venture into moving regions from garage punk (The Osees, Ty Segall, anyone?) to psychedelia or noise, building their very own stuff. "Acid Dove" brings seven relentless firebrands with singular energy. Like their first effort, this new opus was recorded by Jacky At the Movies recording in Brest and comes with a very special artwork by band drummer Hugues/Pzzl.

The evolution of Dry Erase began with their first release, "Fatal Glitch", in 2017, and after a series of transcontinental endeavors, now culminates with their magnum opus. “Decay Model” is the sound of four musicians striving to transcend the musical tropes that have polluted contemporary music. Combining the demonic bass lines, dissonant guitar patterns, and half-functional drum machines from their early days with a new, loose, and unwound feel, “Decay Model” offers something inimitable. Dry Erase are a veritable Frankenstein of musical practices, with European cold wave, early Bristol sounds, hip hop, and avant-garde featured most prominently. Less a band and more an intercontinental collective, Dry Erase challenges and provokes listeners in a way seldom heard today.

95 Autobahns - First LP!

Well, well - this one grows a lot! The first Autobahns LP with their 12 tracks sounds so fresh and so totally 80's at the same time to me, somehow maybe like the bullshit parts of the last 40 years do disappear for the moment the record spins. I always recognize myself playing this record again once it's over to keep that quirky-strange feeling going on. Usually I don't pick a certain song, but if I had to "Loss Of The Rights" with that "1982 coming of age" hook in the chorus is the real deal.

Autobahns is the solo project of swiss italian musician Giuliano Iannarella, currently living in Leipzig (Germany).

88 Egg Idiot - Best Of LOL LP

You don’t have to be a genius to figure out what kind of sonic wares a dude who goes by Egg Idiot is peddling. But that doesn’t mean this gooey Leipzig freak is a one-note act. Over the 16 tracks that make up this debut LP—composed of re-recordings of songs from earlier cassettes—you’ll be taken on quite the lo-fi journey. Yes, you can expect plenty of squiggly power-poppin egg punk in the vein of Cherry Cheeks or Billiam, but you’ll also come across some denser polyrhythmic numbers not too far from something off an early Uranium Club release, a couple of slacker rock jams, what sounds like a contemporary take on ‘90s cassette punk, and even some stuff that borders on oddball industrial. This maybe isn’t a record for the easily annoyed. But you gotta imagine a dude dressed as a giant egg wouldn’t have it any other way. (Alex Howell)

85 Highway Patrol - On A Sensual Ride LP

A sweet golden wind blows, a wonky guitar plays tricks on your mind, an eerie voice slides through the dampness makin your hair stand on end and suddenly you are right in the middle of the sound of HIGHWAY PATROL. Whether it's a lonely motel, an overgrown swamp or a strip bar, those songs do indeed take you on a wild and sensual ride. Seems like those instrument swapping freaks have been diving deep into the waters that have been fueling blues and rock'n'roll since the 70ies. Producing a mysterious mixture between country, soul, rhythm'n'roll. (Have dark forces been dippingtheir finger in the pie?) You'll get your heart broken and fixed in no time!, while those putrid drums will make you dizzy with their wild rhythm. Either way they play a barn in front of 30 people or a venue packed to the top, nobody could ever escape their ease 'n' tension. So lets hear what some other guys have to say after listening to this little beast:

90 Rouge - s/t LP

You probably forgot about Rouge. That’s understandable. It’s been two long years since these Berlin punks dropped their debut cassette. But the folks who were paying attention knew better. There was enough promise in that 2022 release to suggest they had more up their sleeve, and it was clearly just a matter of time before they were ready to share it. Well, that time has come. Once again they’re teaming up with Phantom Records, this time making things official with their first vinyl release. They’ve seemingly spent these last couple of years honing their craft--across the eight tracks on this release, they sound much more confident, bolstered by a production that’s a little more polished, though not necessarily slick. Still, they manage to make this a distinctly Rouge-ish affair, mixing the frenetic pre-hardcore punk of the Bags with the drippy garage of Thee Oh Sees and a heaping helping of contemporary Aussie-styled, po-faced post-punk/new wave and anchored by excellent guitar work and an energetic vocal performance.
